Study for a Camera on a Plot of Land in the Desert

Installation & Website / Ongoing

I am working on a satellite-like apparatus, which, placed in the California High Desert, will autonomously capture the environment using a camera and other sensors, and send this data back to me using radio waves.

I am interested in learning what it means to perceive a place only through custom-built electronics and software - much like our impressions of other celestial bodies, such as planet Mars, are shaped by the robots scientists sent on our behalf.

The data collected is encoded as to only take up the least amount of bandwith, and exfiltrated from the desert by piggy-backing onto the APRS amateur-radio system, which is already being used by radio operators in the area.
